Checking your oven temperature with Square DOT
Is your oven lying to you? Yes! but the real question is, how bad is it lying? All ovens run on a thermostat principle, turning on and off to keep the temperature in the range of the set temp. Use the averaging function on Square DOT® to find out your oven’s true running temp.
Watch the video below to learn how!
Because Square DOT tracks a 15-minute average, you should let it run for 15 minutes after it starts tracking to get an accurate reading. Then you can adjust your oven temp accordingly.
With the knowledge you get from Square DOT, you can get better baking and roasting results every time—better cookies, better souffle, better roast. That’s happy cooking!

Nice
Good article.
Great info! I have a new Jenn Air that I feel is not getting up to temp. I used my square Dot to calibrate and I was correct. It is not off as much as I suspected but enough to mess up that delicate butter based Christmas baking! Thanks for the video. PS since I started using my instant read thermometer my cakes and breads have been successful.
I cannot recommend your products enough.
Fantastic!
Please demonstrate how to set up the oven calibration probe correctly.
Pit the air probe in the included rack clip and put the clip in your oven with the rack clip spanning between two slats in your oven rack. If the slats in your oven rack are too far apart, one option is to make a ball of foil around the probe where it transitions to the cord and wedge that foil ball between the slats. Just make sure the top of the probe is well exposed.
Is it possible to check your oven temp with a Chef alarm
Yes! After it’s fully preheated, reset the min/max function and let your oven run for 15-25 minuted, then look at the min/max, which should be your oven’s high peak and low trough. Take the average of those two numbers, and you’ve got it.
