Check Your Thermometers!
Over time, with continued use, as a result of drops and other kitchen mishaps a thermometer can become less accurate and require recalibration to determine how far off the mark it really is.
Here you can find answers to questions like “which thermometer do I need?”, “What’s the difference between Thermapen ONE and Classic Thermapen?” and more. Your one-stop for all things thermometry.
Over time, with continued use, as a result of drops and other kitchen mishaps a thermometer can become less accurate and require recalibration to determine how far off the mark it really is.
The easiest way to test the accuracy of any thermometer is in a properly made ice bath. If you do this carefully, your ice bath will be 32.0°F within ±0.1°F.
Boiling point calibration tests are tricker than ice bath tests and are unnecessary if an ice bath test proves conclusive. Water boils at 212°F at sea level, but only at sea level. Changes in atmospheric pressure at elevations above or below sea level alter the temperature at which water boils.
Just like the food we eat, there are target temperatures for compost that make it both safe and productive.
A Super-Fast Thermapen is the gift that keeps on giving. From the moment it’s unboxed, people can’t contain themselves; sticking the probe into everything from their pancake breakfast, the baby’s bath water – even a cup of steaming hot coffee. And after all that, they can be heard to say, “What do you know? It really is that fast!”
On their own, the Thermapen and ChefAlarm each have their strengths. But, using them together will go a long way to ensure that a perfectly cooked turkey is on your list of things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
