America’s Test Kitchen gives the ChefAlarm their highest rating:
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – WINNER
This thermometer, with an oven-safe probe, was the most accurate among those we tested, plus it had an intuitive design. It’s the only model we tested that can be calibrated; we also liked the programmable high- and low-temperature alarms, the adjustable brightness and volume, the on/off switch, and the small knob on the probe that stayed cool for over-the-pot adjustments.

Tri-Tip Glory: Grilled or Roasted?
Seems like “the ChefAlarm also comes with an optional needle probe” is not correct (in the “grillingwithrich” excerpt). If the optional probe IS included, I’ll buy a ChefAlarm right away =)
The needle probe is actually on sale 30% off right now, and the sale ends tonight!
Can this be used as a frying thermometer/candy thermometer?
If not, which ones can – i need a clip on.
Thanks,
K
K,
The ChefAlarm with probe clip is the perfect frying thermometer. For a candy thermometer we recommend a Thermapen for spot-checking rather than a leave-in probe thermometer like ChefAlarm. Happy Cooking!
